TÉ PAPA FILMS EARNS UKTI EXPORT GRANT
LONDON– In the months leading up to MIP-com, the media sales Market held in Cannes every October, New UK Indie production house Té Papa Films was made a member of PACT – the Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television. The application was sponsored by industry stalwart Portman Film and Television. As a member of the UK’s principal industry association, Té Papa Films was entitled to apply to the UK’s Trade and Industry department for export assistance. The grant’s criteria is simple – their debut feature film All Bar Love had to have the potential to sell overseas and PACT, acting as the industry administrator, had to believe that the film was a commercial proposition.
The application process was more than a simply filling in a form. PACT and the UKTI required the Producers Aubs Tredget and James Derbyshire to submit copies of the film and supporting marketing material to demonstrate that All Bar Love was of sufficient quality to warrant participation in the Mip-com trade delegation, and therefore qualify for the export subsidy.
After due process All Bar Love was deemed eligible for the grant, which was used to cover costs associated with film’s presence on the PACT UK Indies stand. The sales promotional video was specially adapted to play on the PACT Digital Video System, enabling it to be viewed on demand at any one of the 12 DVS booths around the stand, as well as rotating on the stand’s central plasma screening with content from other producers. All Bar Love flyers were also prominently displayed on two dedicated literature racks and the film was given a ¼ page, full colour listing in the PACT Indies catalogue.

350 CHEER TÉ PAPA FILMS' FEATURE DEBUT - "ALL BAR LOVE"
LONDON– New UK Indie production house Té Papa Films hosted its cast and crew première on Saturday the 4th August to a full house. The 11am slot at Odeon Wimbledon’s digital cinema (350 seat capacity), is usually reserved for the summer’s family block buster, but on this occasion it was filled by cast, crew, investors, special guests, Cerec dancers and select members of the general public.
While the specially commissioned digital technician bustled behind the scenes to ensure the Hi-definition projection was ready for All Bar Love’s debut in front of a general audience, guests, including the deputy Mayor of Merton and Wimbledon MP Stephen Hammond were greeted at the door by Producer Aubs Tredget and Director James Derbyshire. A palpable air of excitement wafted through as the crowd as local comedian Ian Ward gentle cajoled them to take their seats.
James and Aubs welcomed the assembled throng, thanking the many investors, supporters and participants without whom the day would have remained little more than a dream. As the lights dimmed and the music rose, an expectant hush fell across the cinema as the audience settled into their seats
85minutes later a thoroughly entertained audience applauded with gusto, and an excited crowd, still discussing the finer points of the film, made their way to film première drinks reception sponsored by Fuller’s Brewery. A VIP area was set aside offering a fine selection of wines, acknowledging the invaluable contribution of investors and member of the cast and crew, while generous quantities of Honey Dew, specially supplied by Fullers for the occasion, flowed liberally amongst those who congregated under the specially erected awning.
Given the crush, James and Aubs did their utmost to circuit the gathering, thanking in person as many as they could, all the while keeping an ear out for feed back and gauging the audiences’ reaction to the film. Safe to say the response was incredibly positive. The film was applauded as a triumph of low budget production and creative tenacity, and the crowd unanimous in their appraisal: a very enjoyable film experience that bodes well for the future.
